Fortune magazine has published its annual ranking of most admired companies in all sectors, including construction and engineering. The category leader was AECOM, followed by Jacobs, Quanta Services, MasTec, and KBR.
According to a statement released by AECOM upon the magazine’s publication, “In 2020, despite the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, AECOM delivered for its employees, clients, communities, and stockholders resulting in strong financial performance in the Fiscal Year 2020 that exceeded guidance on nearly every key financial metric. Its teams mobilized quickly and safely to lead the industry in disaster response. They developed innovative digital consulting solutions that increase engagement and streamline processes critical to economic and social recovery.”
During its fiscal fourth-quarter presentation, AECOM revealed a backlog of $41.2 billion in projects and a year-over-year increase of 13%. In December, AECOM sold off its civil construction business. Company officials did not disclose the sales price, but the division did civil projects, mass transit, mining, water, highway, and bridgework. The sale also included Shimmick Construction, which AECOM had just purchased in 2017 for $175 million. In October, AECOM sold its power construction business to work on high-margin, low-risk projects.
Ranked highest in its category AECOM earns its place as Fortune Magazine’s most admired construction and engineering firm.
