Support Spotlight: Jason Morrison
What is your job title, and how long have you been at hh2?
I am the Director of Project Implementations & Trainings and have been with the company almost 10 1/2 years. My passion involves getting our new clients up and running on our cloud base services and training their staff. My favorite part about work is that I love what I do and I do not consider it to be work in the traditional sense. I feel a great deal of satisfaction in educating the construction community with industry best practices. It is about making a difference and being a part of that experience that excites me. Anytime I can help a team of people become more efficient, save time, money and have that carry over into the field with jobsite supervisors and their employees, it makes me feel good.
What is your background (schooling, experience, locations, etc)?
In 1996 I had planned to help manage and run my family's General Agency Insurance business. After a couple of years working with family I knew it wasn't for me and left to peruse an education in IT. I completed 2 years at Salt Lake Community College studying Computer Business Administration and then left to join a private IT Academy to become certified as a CISCO Certified Network Professional (CCNP). I graduated with both Cisco and Microsoft Credentials (CCNP, MCP, N+, A+). I later stepped into the Cloud Based Solutions arena with my technical background as a Project Manager. I have spent considerable time in the Litigation and Criminal Law sectors managing and implementing large scale projects.
What do you do in your free time?
My free time consists of spending time with my beautiful wife of 21 years and 4 children. I enjoy going to all their football, wrestling, ballet and dance meets. I enjoy fly fishing 4-5 times a year and once a quarter I head up north into Idaho and Montana with a great group of trout bums. I am blessed to be able to capture all of those moments on my camera and occasionally my photography work gets featured in national magazine publications.
The perception from a couple of my colleagues is that I am born to fish and forced to work and it couldn't be further from the truth. My pursuit of happiness has always been found in building relationships and helping others. I have a great platform and position to do that with hh2 Cloud Services.
A couple of hints and tricks I can offer:
1. Keep it Simple. Simplify your approval process. Ironically, large companies--typically of 500 employees or more--have very streamlined time routing and approval processes in place. They are very efficient. On the other side, I see companies of 25 employees or less with 4-5 levels of approval and having too many Chiefs.
2. Remove the "Tin-Foil Hat" mentality and be open to giving field employees opportunities to code time and daily logs more effectively and freely. Locking down daily logs and timecards is not always the better practice in avoiding clerical errors or time coding mistakes. Proper training will always counter these types of issues and empower your staff enabling them to get their jobs done with efficiency.
3. Be open to new ideas during your implementation process. Having years of cloud-based solution experience in the construction industry I can consult with you on best practices on what has and hasn’t worked in our industry. We will never tell you how to run your business. More important is offering ways to improve and make it better.
